The
Reunion Classes of 1977-83 was held on Saturday, July 16, 2005. The
first part of the reunion was held in the Chemical Engineering
Department with a guided tour of the research and teaching laboratories.
Lunch was enjoyed by all in the department. A Saturday evening dinner
was held at Steve's Café Americain where everyone dined on fine food.
The greetings, examining of faces, kidding, laughter and back-slappping
began as people checked in on Saturday morning. Many of them had not
seen each other since graduation. Traveling the greatest distance, David
(Dave) Long flew in from from Redwood Shores, California; Robert (Rob)
Dotson from Houston, Texas; Donna (Fraizer) Kiersz from Buffalo, New
York; Ian Craw from Houston, Texas; James (Jim) Ligon drove from Albany,
Georgia; and Dr. Vasant Chapnerkar from Tampa, Florida. Most of the
others lived closer: Scott Gallagher, Jacksonville, Florida; Gary Reed,
Jacksonville, Florida; Dr. William (Billy) McGrane, Ormond Beach,
Florida; and Michael Dybevick, Gainesville, Florida. Professors Lewis
Johns and Mack Tyner were also in attendance. The dinner was attended by
the graduates and their spouses, Chemical Engineering faculty and their
spouses and the Chemical Engineering Department Chair, and dinner host,
Dr. Jennifer Curtis.
Some who attended the reunion stated that it was the most fun they
had experienced in a long time. Many graduates are now looking forward
to attending the next reunion which will be held July 15, 2006. Probably
what made this reunion so enjoyable was that all the graduates could
turn the clock back in time to when they were younger - full of vigor
and optimism - with expectations for their happy and productive future.
